Please continue to have your child practice our WWW's on a regular basis (read and copy the word on paper). Each day we are taking 15 minutes to read/look through books. Students are given the opportunity to read/look through books independently and with a partner. This allows everyone to practice their reading skills. Math: We will be finishing up our patterning unit this week! Science: We have started to talk about materials and where they come from (i.e., paper comes from tress, etc.). Colour Week: Starting on Wednesday, September 18th 2019, we will begin working on some colour themed activities. We are asking that children try to wear something showing the colour of the day. Here is a schedule to help your child dress for the colour of the day.

How is it June already!? It is very hard to believe that we are in our last month of Grade 1... It feels like just yesterday 18 little friends were walking through our classroom doors for the very first time. This last month will be an emotional one knowing that they will soon be leaving for their next learning adventure. I am proud of them. I know that will be successful in accomplishing amazing things throughout their lives. I know that they are capable. I know that they are brave. I know that they are smart. I know that they are kind. And finally, I know that they will play a part in changing our world for the better. ❤
We are about to have a very busy last month! Language: We are continuing to work on creating stories and completing writing prompts. Please check your child's backpack/agenda for samples of their writing. Here is a list of things we are trying to refine:
Math: We have completed our algebra and probability units. We are now moving onto fractions (whole, 1/2, and 1/4). Science: We will be creating habitat dioramas this month! We will be focusing on creating a diorama that represents the habitat of a specific animal and elements within the habitat that the animal requires to live (food, shelter, water, etc.). We are starting to explore the concepts of greater than, less than, and equal to. Students will be creating and representing various equations. Thank you for all that you do! :) Education Week: The Grade 1's will be leading our Education Week Mass at St. Patrick Fallowfield on Monday, May 6th. The mass will be held in the morning. Our class will also be attending the St. Anne Book Fair on Monday, May 6th. Students will have the opportunity to purchase books at this time. Students will not be previewing books or creating wish lists like in years past. Feel free to bring your child to the Book Fair on Friday, May 10th during the St. Anne Open House!

We are learning to find important information in texts and put that information into sentence form. Students have each chosen an animal to research. All of our research/work will be done at school.
