To my dear Grade 1's, I miss you very much! I hope you are all doing well and having some fun. You're families are doing the best they can to care for you and ensure that your time spent at home is enjoyable! Please remember how capable and helpful you are. There is so much you can do around the house to help out. You know how to dust, clean the table after eating, clean shelves, organize shelves, sort shoes/outdoor clothes, fold blankets and sweep floors. I'm sure the adults in your life would really appreciate your help! You are all kind and responsible. There is also so much you can do at home to have fun! Here are a few ideas:
Dear Families, These times of uncertainty are very difficult and stressful. Please know that I will be available to provide support in any way that I can. Sending you my thoughts and well wishes. Below you'll find a break down of our day. I incorporate many body breaks to help students remain focused and calm.
Language: Below you will find two documents for our Word Wall Words. Please feel free to use as you see fit. Make your own Word Wall at home: You can make your own word wall at home by downloading the the document below and cutting out each of the words. I use these words in class for our word wall. I have the alphabet on a wall and post each word under its corresponding letter (all the A words together, all the B words, etc.). It is time consuming to set up but a very helpful tool for your child's learning. You child can help you set it up! Print it off and have them cut it out. They can make an alphabet for the wall. I will be posting more lessons/activities in the days to come. All of lessons are suggestions and can be modified based off of your child's needs. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or require additional clarification. Please stay safe and healthy, Ms. Casey

Language: Term 1 Word Wall Word assessments will be sent home this week. I can tell that everyone is working very hard to learn their word wall words! We are continuing to practice our writing skills daily, focusing on proper sentence formation (finger spaces, punctuation, letter formation) and adding detail (who, what, where, when, why). I will be sending home two marked writing samples this week. Please take a moment to review them with your child, specifically the feedback found on the rubrics. We will begin opinion writing over the next few weeks. Science: Our structures unit is coming to a close. We are ending this unit by planning out and building our own structures. Construction is already underway! Students have decided to build new homes for the animals in Australia that lost theirs. :) Friendship Bracelets: We raised $438.47! I hope our grade 1's always remember that they have the power to make a difference in our world. Thank you for your support! Friendly Reminders:
Friendship Bracelets:
Our Grade 1s would like to help support the people and animals impacted by the devastating fires in Australia. They have decided to make and distribute friendship bracelets in the hopes of raising money. We have been visiting classes to talk about why we are raising money and how this money is going to help those is Australia. Our St. Anne community has been very generous in their donations and we have raised well past our initial goal! We set out to raise $50 and have now passed $200! We will be accepting small donations over the next week and will split 100% of the donations between The Red Cross Australia and World Wildlife Fund Australia. Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank you for supporting and encouraging our little learners. Each of your children bring a special gift to our classroom, helping to creating a unique and welcoming community. I am so proud of how far they have come since September. Our Christmas Concert was a hit! Please let me know if you have a video of our class performing and if you are willing to share it. If possible, I would like to share it on Twitter for those who were unable to make it to the concert/students extended family and friends. Thank you in advance! In the New Year I will be doing a Word Wall Word (WWW) assessment on the words from October to December. This assessment will help us to better understand which words, vowel/letter sounds, and blends your child needs more time with. Continuing to practice our WWW's and printing simple sentences over the holidays would greatly benefit students. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season! Warm wishes, Ms. Casey Christmas Concert:
Please join us this Friday, December 20th at 9:30 AM for our Christmas Concert! We have been working very hard over the past month to create a special performance for you! Thank you for sending in a white shirt and plastic headband. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding our Christmas concert. Primary Christmas Concert (Grades 1-3) - 9:30 AM Junior Christmas Concert (Grades 4-6) - 10:50 AM Advent Mass: Students did a FANTASTIC job leading our Advent Mass. I was very proud of how well they did. Friendly Reminders:
Our Solar System:
Two months ago we read a book about stars. This one book sparked our curiosity and imaginations. Our curiosity sparked meaningful learning that allowed students to understand how their skills (reading, writing, math, science, collaboration) can be used in practical ways. Letters: Last week we wrote letters to the Canadian Armed Forces and to Santa. We talked about how simple actions, such a sending a letter, can make a huge impact in the lives of others. Our letters expressed thanks, well wishes, and hopes for the future. Each student wrote a letter and created a picture to go along with it. Again, students were able to see how learning is used in daily life (reading, writing, art). We need help! We are collecting empty tissue boxes, small cardboard boxes, large pieces of flat cardboard and cardboard tubes. Please send any of these items in over the next week. Thank you in advance! P.S - Don't ask why... it's a secret! Advent Mass: Our class will be reading and singing during St. Anne's Advent Mass on Monday, December 9th at 10:45 AM. Please feel free to join us. Christmas Concert: If possible, please send in a plastic headband (Dollar Store) and I white T-Shirt for your child. Feel free to send these items in as soon as possible. I will keep everyone's belongings separate you will get them back after our concert. However, I will be attaching something to the headbands with hot glue. Please let me know if you have any questions of concerns. Friendly Reminders:

Your hard work is paying off! Thank you for practicing the word wall words (WWW) at home.
