This past week has helped to teach us what it truly means to be a community. We have talked about the importance of sharing our support, love and time to those in need. At the beginning of the week, we created thank you notes for all those who spent countless hours keeping our community safe. We posted a picture of these thank you notes on Twitter and mentioned all those who we wanted to thank. CBC Radio saw our post and ask if they could interview a few of our students. Students shared why they wanted to show their gratitude. I have shared the link to the article below. You will be able to see pictures and listen to the interview. I am so proud of our students :) Field Trip and Volunteering: I have sent home a permission form for our very first field trip. This field trip will take place on Tuesday, November 13th. We will be looking for parent volunteers to help us with this trip. All parents wishing to volunteer for fields trips or within the school are now required by the Ottawa Catholic School Board to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check. I will send home the Vulnerable Sector Check form to all those who wish to volunteer for the field trip or within the school at any point throughout the school year. That being said, I am looking for a few volunteers to come into our classroom on a weekly or monthly basis to help support our reading and writing! Please let me if you are interested in this. Monthly Calendar: I have sent home our Monthly Calendar for October. In an effort to save paper, I would like to move away from sending home a paper copy each month. Calendars will be posted on our class website under the Monthly Calendar tab at the beginning of each month. Please let me know if you would like a paper copy sent home. Deep Learning Project: What does it mean to care? Over the course of the year, we will be investigating what it means to care for ourselves, our local and global community, and environment. I have sent a note home about how we would like to support those impacted by last Friday’s tornado in Dunrobin. I have also posted a PDF version of the note below.
Friendly Reminders:
Thank you for your support. You make our learning possible! Take care, Ms. Casey

Below you will find the two notes that were sent home this week. I will be posting information about our gym and library schedule over the next few days.
We can check the first week of Grade 1 off our list! Over the past four days we have taken the time to get to know our new friends, learning about what makes us unique and the common interests we share. This month we will begin exploring seasons, letter sound relationships, and representing numbers in different ways. Thank you for sending in the class supplies and family pictures!
